Default New bug alert? maybe?

Whirling doesn't work. Maybe it's a coincidence that 15 arrows and 4 hammer attacks just went through mine, but the chances of that are 1/687 billion, so it's more likely it's bugged. No, the ranger did not have seeking (he had kindle), and no the warrior did not have warriors cunning.
I was very surprised when my test build ranger got ranger spiked in RA through whirling...yeah it sucked.

The skill works, your luck sucks. Next time try testing it in-game in a controlled situation before making a fool of yourself.

There's a chance that you'll block 75% of all attacks. It doesn't mean that when you activate it, it'll block 75 attacks out of 100 always.

Don't forget that there are skills and attacks that bypass stances.

Wild Blow?

Irresistable Blow goes through Whirling Defense and knocks you down.

Yes, it is 25% or .25 for each. However the probablity of all 19 hitting is given by 0.25^19. Assuming, of couse, that no stance breaker was used.

0.25^19 is 2.7488E11, 274.88 billion

19 attacks (15 arrows, 4 hammer attacks) all hit with a 25% chance of landing. One attack had a 1/4 chance of hitting, two hitting in a row would be 1/4 * 1/4, etc...

I think anyway.

There's always Guided Weapon I suppose, and an ally can cast that on them.

In any case, I haven't had any problems with Whirling Defence recently. I DID get a bad luck streak as well (Blind + Whirling, and I still got hit a few times in a row), but it was the exception, rather than the norm.

Could just be a quirk in the random number generator. Sometimes, random isn't always all that random when conditions are met.

There is a trick with Warrior's Cunning that may explain why Whirling didn't work. When you use Warrior's Cunning, the skill use icon uses the secondary display spot where stances and shouts normally appear. If a warrior follows Warrior's Cunning immediately with Sprint or Frenzy, the stance display icon covers up the Warrior's Cunning icon, and the opponent will be unable to see that the warrior's attacks are unblockable. Treacherous Empire used this trick in a game again Evil a few seasons ago, and mentioned it during a voice-commentary video of the match.

i had a strange bug doing the ice caves of sorrow mission the other day, i was at lvl 17 and had got up to just needing 200xp to hit lvl 18, carried on going through lvl killing mobs but no lvl 18.. looked in stats window and it said i still needed 200xp, so went and killed a few more mobs and made a concious effort to count the xp that they gave when they died so i could count the 200, but still i never hit 18 it stayed on needing 200 more.

Whirling Defense has always been like that. I'd have created a thread similar to this aswell but you open yourself up for a flaming. But yes, Whirling Defense doesn't work as the description states.

Funny thing is, I was trying a R/W cyclone axe troll farming build with Bonetti's Defense, Shield Stance and Whirling Defense and both warrior stances worked fine but the troll attacks were going right through Whirling. Yet again, Anet love the warriors.
